Like other activities that contribute to our appearance, wellbeing and self-confidence, plastic surgery procedures are subject to health and pop culture influences. For example, as we mentioned last month, smaller breast implants are becoming a big trend!
And according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), butt and neck lifts are growing in popularity. Buttock augmentation with fat grafting (the Brazilian butt lift), may owe its popularity to certain celebrities. And Baby Boomers are certainly driving the growth in neck skin tightening.
The ASPS believes the increase in plastic surgery procedures in general may be due to more advanced tools and techniques that can improve outcomes with less pain and limited down time.
And most all plastic surgeries are on the rise, including reconstructive procedures, such as:
- Tumor removal
- Cut repair
- Facial defect surgery
- Scar revisions
- Hand surgery
- Breast reconstruction
Studies show that breast reconstruction improves quality of life
The rise in breast reconstruction surgeries is being, at least partially, attributed to efforts to educate women about their options after breast cancer treatments. A 2014 study showed that the majority of women who get mastectomies are opting to have breast reconstruction. As recently as 1998, only 46% decided to have the procedure.
Cosmetic surgical procedures are also increasing
The top procedures include breast augmentation, nose reshaping, eyelid surgery, liposuction and facelifts.
In fact, facelifts and other facial rejuvenation procedures are favorites
More or us than ever are opting to have facelifts, forehead lifts, eyelid surgery, peels and fillers. Which leads us to the growth in the popularity of non-invasive procedures.
Non-invasive procedures show some of the biggest growth
Botox injections, chemical peels, IPL and laser hair removal top the list of the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures last year. These types of procedures can improve our appearance from head-to-toe with little recovery time and without anesthesia.
