V-Beam Perfecta™ Pulsed Dye Laser–Do not use

V-Beam Perfecta™ Pulsed Dye Laser

The V-Beam Perfecta™ Pulsed Dye Laser is a state-of-the-art laser with a high safety profile that is used to treat facial blood vessels and a variety of other vascular lesions. The V-Beam Perfecta emits a wavelength of light (995nm) which targets the red pigment in hemoglobin. There is no effect on surrounding normal skin. A burst of cooling spray precedes the laser light, selectively cooling the upper layers of the skin, maximizing patient comfort.

Conditions treated:

  • Broken/dilated blood vessels
  • Rosacea-facial redness
  • Hemangioma – small blood vessel growths
  • Port wine stains
  • Poikiloderma of Civatte-redness that can occur with sun-damage to the skin on the chest and neck
  • Hypertrophic scars – raised red scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Bruising after surgical facial procedures

Is there downtime after the procedure?

It depends on what condition is being treated and the intensity of treatment. Facial telangiectasia treatment has little or no associated downtime. There is usually some mild redness and swelling which usually resolves within 24 hours. Bruising (purpura) is minimal or absent with lower energy levels. As the energy level becomes greater so does the amount of swelling and bruising. Many patients prefer to undergo several treatment sessions minimizing downtime (three to five treatment sessions spaced three to four weeks apart). Treatment of port-wine stains results in significant dark purple discoloration that may take up to two weeks to dissipate.

Is the V-Beam treatment painful?

No. The treatment feels like a rubber band snapping against the skin. No anesthesia is necessary.

What type of aftercare is necessary?

Protect your skin from the sun using a sunblock containing zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Avoiding saunas, steam rooms, and intense exercise that normally causes facial flushing should be avoided until the immediate redness associated with the treatment dissipates.

Will the blood vessels completely disappear?

It depends on the condition being treated. Isolated facial telangectasias may be completely removed. Rosacea can be improved but not eliminated. Raised scars, hypertrophic scars can be improved, but not eliminated. Other treatment modalities may be used in addition to the V-Beam to treat certain conditions.

Consult with a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist to see if the V-Beam or another laser will be the appropriate treatment for you.
